I am David Ellington's wife, Katherine. I have known Big Al through David's stories and remembrances of him ever since I met David some 15 years ago. David's anecdotes of his friend have shown me what a truly special friend Big Al was. Kindness is never forgotten. I am sure that he will be missed by his friends and family.

I was new to the neighborhood in ’68 or ’69. I went for my first walk in the neighborhood and had a tough time with the first fellow I met; a story best skipped here. But then I came across Al. Even though he was a couple years older than me, he was as friendly as could be and invited me to ‘have a catch’ and so began a great childhood friendship. We played; baseball, basketball, football, street hockey, even ping-pong through the years at the Barnes residence in New Canaan, Ct. The whole Barnes family and residence became like a ‘second home’ for me. Al recently told me he felt the same way when visiting our home; mainly to shoot hoops and/or play chess. Al had a great memory; especially for sports statistics, trivia, and the like. He was also a mean free throw shooter in Basketball! The thing I’ll always remember best about ‘Big Al’, is how kind he was to anyone and everyone he met. And although we didn’t keep in touch very well though the years as adults, he has always held a special place in my heart. Our condolences to Aurelia [Melanie,Lizette, & Walter Jr], Carey, Robbie, and families. Sincerely, David Ellington

Carey you always spoke so highly of Big Al and how he loved to laugh and joke around. I’m keeping you and his family in my prayers as you say an earthly farewell to Heaven’s newest angel. ♥️

Carey I am so sorry for your loss. From what I have seen he had the same sense of humor as you and he must have been a great guy. Please know I am here anytime you need to talk. God Bless.

I will miss Walter a great deal. He always had a funny story to tell about his times in the Navy. He was a good man with a big heart.
