Obituary of John William Ferrick
John William Ferrick (Jack) of North East, Maryland passed away on Friday December 28, 2018 after reaching the age of 85 years old. Following a year of failing health, he died peacefully at Traditions of Hershey in Palmyra, Pennsylvania with his beloved wife Joan, his children and grandchildren by his side.
Jack was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania on May 3, 1933 to John Francis Ferrick and Evelyn Agatha Gerrity. The family, including Jack's sister Patricia (Celardo) moved to Brooklyn, NY where he attended St Anselm's Catholic School.
During the Korean War he volunteered for the US Air Force and served in Japan and Korea as a Cartographer. He was honorably discharged in May of 1956 and returned to Brooklyn.
During this time he was introduced by his sister Patricia, to the love of his life Joan Helen Senese.
On August 29, 1959, Joan and Jack were married at St. Simon and Jude Church, on Avenue T in Brooklyn. They honeymooned in the Pocono's and soon thereafter started their family on Hubbard St. in Brooklyn. They remained inseparable for over 59 years.
His sons, John Alan was born in June of 1960 followed by Robert James in June of 1962. The family moved to Staten Island, NY and in the early 70's to East Brunswick, NJ.
Jack was a proud, long time member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 3 in NYC. During his career, he was a telephone repairman and eventually retired as a foreman.
Jack enjoyed camping and was an active adult member of Boy Scout Troop 103 in East Brunswick, NJ. His love of camping gave way to his lifelong love of sailing. Jack and the family had innumerous adventures sailing his boats SeaFlight out of Point Pleasant and Tom's River NJ.
Jack and Joan retired to Chesapeake Isle, in North East, Maryland. This idyllic location at the headwaters of the Chesapeake Bay, provided wonderful opportunities for sailing and in later years power boating aboard the AlaBob. More importantly, Chesapeake Isle provided a warm and loving community where Jack and Joan met many of their closest, never to be forgotten friends.
In the end, Jack was a good, selfless man who loved his friends and family and wanted only to make certain the love of his life, his wife of 59 years, Joan was taken care of.
Jack is preceded in death by his parents, John Francis, Evelyn Agatha and his sister Patricia Celardo. He is survived by his loving wife, Joan, his sons, John Alan and wife Edie of Browndale, PA, Bob and wife Charlene of Palmyra, PA, 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews and other beloved friend and relatives.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 5th from 9:30-11:00am, with a service taking place at 11:00am at Rezem Funeral Home, 457 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Burial Park Mausoleum, South Brunswick.
