Obituary of Elizabeth English

Elizabeth A. (Betty) English, 83 of Old Bridge, NJ, peacefully passed away on October 22, 2018.

Betty was born in New York on June 4, 1935. She graduated from Seton Hall University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1971, Rutgers University in 1973 as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, and received her M.A. in Nursing Administration from New York University in 1984.

She was a long time resident of Old Bridge Twp. She served on many Old Bridge Twp. committees and organizations: Housing Authority, Regional Hospital, Recreation Committee, Clean Communities Committee, Old Bridge Municipal Alliance, Self-Sustaining After School Program, and Parish Council of St. Ambrose.

From 1988 to 1991 she was the Old Bridge Twp. Councilwoman at Large, and served on number of additional committees ranging from the new Old Bridge Library, Open Space, Human Service and Finance. From 1971 to 1999 she proudly served on the Old Bridge Republican County Committee.

In 1972, Betty was a Nursing Instructor at St. Peter's Medical Center. She also taught at East Brunswick Vocational Training School and in 1984 became the Program Director at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. From 1984 to 2001 Betty served on the New Jersey State Board of Nursing. In 1992, she became the Assistant Administrator at Roosevelt Hospital in Edison while being the Assistant Professor at Essex County College. From 1997 to 2010 she was the Administrator at the John L. Montgomery Care Center in Freehold.

Betty was predeceased by brothers, Thomas English of Old Bridge and John (Jack) English of New York, and by her parents Maurice and Honora (nee O'Connor).

Her loving family survives her.

As per Betty's request she was cremated.

A Celebration of Betty's Life will be held at Rezem Funeral Home in East Brunswick on Friday, November 9th from 6:00 to 9:00 pm.

A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, November 10th at 10:30 am at Saint Ambrose Church in Old Bridge.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to St Jude Children's Research Hospital at stjude.org would be appreciated.
