Obituary of Michael Fitzgerald

Michael Patrick Fitzgerald passed away Thursday, September 13, 2018 at his residence. He was 91 years old.

Born in Yorkville, New York City, a parishioner of Our lady of Good Counsel. He was a graduate of Cardinal Hayes High School's first graduating class in 1944. Following high school, he served honorably in WWII, U.S. Navy, Seabees.

He married the love of his life, Margaret, in 1951 in New York City, moving out to Old Bridge, NJ in 1956 where they raised five children. He was an active member of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish and St. Vincent De Paul Society. Michael was a lifelong member of Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh since 1964. He retired from DuPont in 1988.

Michael is pre-deceased by his wife Margaret, his daughter Maryellen Dower and a daughter Theresa, who died in infancy.

Michael leaves behind his loving family; sons Patrick Fitzgerald, Michael Fitzgerald and his wife Amie Fitzgerald; son-in-law Harold Dower, (Maryellen Dower), daughters Kathleen Fitzgerald and her husband Bob Josephson and Jane Marie and her husband John. Ten grandchildren; Paul, Jesse, Brian, Kevin, Cathleen, Liam, Kiera, Molly, Garrett and Ryan and two great grandchildren Luke and Kira. He was adored by many nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren.

Michael was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather and uncle, whose greatest enjoyment was his family. He was a wonderful storyteller who will be sadly missed by all who knew him and loved him.

A visitation will take place on 9/16/2018 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Rezem Funeral Home, 457 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick.

A mass will take place at 10:15, St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Old Bridge, followed by burial at Holy Cross Burial Park in East Brunswick.
