Dr. Iluminada Martinez Mendoza, age 83, passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at RWJ University Hospital, New Brunswick, NJ. She has been reunited with her beloved husband, Lorenzo B. Mendoza, who predeceased her in 1994. Iluminada, fondly known to her friends and family as Mama Lu, was born in Manila, Philippines, where she graduated from University of The East, and practiced dentistry.
She resided in Old Bridge, NJ, where she was a communicant and Eucharistic Minister of St. Thomas the Apostle Church, and also an elder in the Filipino Charismatic Catholic movement, where she grew in her love for Christ and embraced her service to the Lord. She enjoyed travelling the world and visiting pilgrimage sites.
Mama Lu's, culinary skills were legendary and many sought her recipes, which she would generously share...except for maybe that one secret ingredient that made her cooking taste unique.
Her love of family knew no bounds. She proudly and selflessly took on the role of second mother to her grandsons, Christian and Zachary, whom she helped raise.
She is survived by her loving children; her son, Vincent Mendoza and his wife Leah, her daughters, Pia Salazar and her husband Alrey, Genelisa Mendoza, and Grace Cole and her husband Randall, and her three grandsons, Jordan, Christian and Zachary.
Calling hours will be Sunday, January 27th from 1-3 pm and 5-7 PM at Rezem Funeral Home, 457 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10:15 am on Monday, January 28th at St. Thomas The Apostle RC Church, 1 Saint Thomas Plaza, Old Bridge, followed by committal prayers at the Crematory At Holy Cross Burial Park Chapel, East Brunswick.
