William Richard Phillips, age 85, died September 28, 2017, in the Hospice Unit at JFK Hospital in Edison, NJ. Bill was born in Connellsville, PA on May 8, 1932, and was the son of E. Stanley Phillips & Carolyn T. Phillips.
Bill was a graduate of the Connellsville Senior High School and the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Following graduation from the University, Bill spent several years as a teacher in the Michigan public school system, and then relocated to New Jersey to briefly serve as a safety engineer with a leading insurance company. Shortly thereafter, Bill commenced his lifetime career in the real estate business in and around East Brunswick. Bill became a real estate broker, accredited by the State of New Jersey, and for many years owned and operated a Century 21 franchise office in East Brunswick, NJ. He retired in 2010. Bill is survived by his brother, John W. Phillips and wife Bobbie, of Gettysburg, PA; his sister Susanne Crowe and husband, Patrick, of Honolulu, on the island of Oahu; and by his brother, Thomas S. Phillips, of St. Augustine, FL. Bill is also survived by Thomas La, of East Brunswick, NJ. Thomas was fostered by Bill when Thomas came to the United States as a teenager. Bill continued a paternal relationship with Thomas through Thomas' high school and college days, and through Thomas' later marriage to his wife and the birth of their two children.
Bill was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in East Brunswick. Funeral preparations will be cared for by REZEM Funeral Home in East Brunswick, NJ, where a brief memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 5th , 2017, commencing at 1:00pm. The Reverend Ericka Munoz will officiate. There will be no viewing. Bill's ashes will be interred in Green Ridge Memorial Cemetery, Connellsville, PA, in a private ceremony at a later date.
