Dorothy Meggison Ward, 83, Spotswood, passed away at home on March 7th "Dottie" was born in
South Amboy on May 13, 1926. As a recipient of a full scholarship, she received a B.A. in Library Science from Douglass College in 1947. Eleven days after graduation, she married Glynn Ward. After working for 2 years as a public librarian in New Brunswick, Dottie left the profession to raise a family.
In the early 1950s she and her young family moved to a new subdivision in Spotswood, where she resided until her passing. A communicant of Immaculate Conception church, Dottie was active in that school's PTA as well as the Rosary Altar Society. One of her many volunteer activities included helping to create the Immaculate Conception School Library. In the late 60's, she returned to work as a part-time librarian in the Spotswood Public Library. In the midst of raising her six children, Dottie enrolled in Trenton State College where she received her Associate Educational Media Certificate. As Spotswood Public Schools first certified librarian, from 1970-1988 she was instrumental in the establishment of libraries in Memorial Middle School, Schoenly School and Spotswood High School. By the time she retired, Dottie had worked in all but one of Spotswood's libraries. She spent several years after retirement by volunteering again at Immaculate Conception School Library. Mrs. Ward was predeceased by her husband, Glynn, in 2006 and by 2 sisters and a brother. She is survived by her children: Virginia Ward and husband Edward Linzer, Spotswood, Christine Giunta and husband Tony, Freehold, Lisaann Ward, Freehold, Janis Becker and husband Kevin, South Amboy,
Joyce Haslach, Sayreville, Glynn Ward, Jr and wife Loraine, South Amboy.
Dottie also leaves behind her grandchildren: Jason Ward, Matthew, Brian and Shawn Haslach, Joshua Ward-Linzer, Tony Giunta and wife Stephanie, Christopher Giunta and wife Arlene, Ryan and Colin Becker, and Tyra Ward as well
her sister, Ann Jankowski and brother Albert Meggison.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Thursday, March 11, 2010 at 9:15 A.M. from the Rezem
Funeral Home, 457 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick, Followed by a 10:15 A.M. mass of Christian
burial at Immaculate Conception Church in Spotswood.
Entombment will be at the Holy Cross Burial Park Mausoleum in South Brunswick.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, March 10, 2010 from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at Rezem Funeral Home,
457 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick.
